Matter & Light is thrilled to announce a collaboration with Nina Nielsen and John Baker, former proprietors of the celebrated Nielsen Gallery, which was located on Boston’s Newbury Street from 1963-2009. During these years, the Nielsen Gallery rose to international prominence, showing work by Jackson Pollock, Albert York, Arthur Dove, Sam MesserJoan Snyder, Marsden Hartley, Jake Berthot, John Walker, Bill Jensen, John Lees and many others, twice winning the International Association of Art Critics’ prize for “Best Show in a Commercial Gallery in the United States.

The Nielsen Gallery was fiercely committed to artists whose work grappled with deep spiritual aspects of the human condition, and from September 16 to October 31, Nina Nielsen and John Baker will present a solo exhibition at Matter & Light from one such artist, Sachiko Akiyama. Her show, titled “Between Here and There” continues the profound, searching work that made her such a mainstay of the Nielsen Gallery artist roster. During the course of the show, Nina Nielsen will frequently be present in the gallery to discuss Sachiko’s with any who are interested.
